At Service Steel, we believe in investing not only in our customers and employees—but also in the future of our industry. That’s why we’re proud to highlight a recent community engagement led by our very own Sondra Miller-Pearson, Director of Material Management.
Sondra recently joined Principal Patricia Cross at Voyager College Preparatory High School in Detroit for their Career Day event. Drawing from her years of experience in the field, Sondra spoke with students about the dynamic world of Supply Chain Management, offering insights into a field that often operates behind the scenes—but powers nearly every industry.
Preparing for the Future
During her presentation, Sondra walked students through the essential skills needed to thrive in supply chain roles—like critical thinking, data analysis, and adaptability. She also shared real-world insights into salary expectations, career advancement opportunities, and how supply chain professionals collaborate across departments such as logistics, procurement, operations, and sales.
By showcasing the variety of career paths within the field, she helped students see how supply chain connects with many other industries—from manufacturing to technology—and how it serves as a vital link in keeping business moving.
Sharing Our Story
Sondra also gave students a glimpse into Service Steel’s proud legacy. From our humble beginnings with a single location in Detroit more than 100 years ago, we’ve grown into a trusted national supplier with five warehouses and a corporate headquarters serving customers across the United States. Her story underscored how tradition, innovation, and strong leadership can drive sustained growth over a century.
Inspiring Tomorrow’s Leaders
We’re incredibly proud to have Sondra represent Service Steel at events like these. Her leadership and experience make a lasting impact—not just within our company, but also in the broader community. By encouraging young people to explore careers in supply chain and manufacturing, she’s helping shape the future of our industry.
Stay connected with us as we continue to support education, community engagement, and professional development across all levels.
